One of the best reasons to blog . . .

I have to tell you guys that the one thing I love about blogging is when you take the time to go back and look at older posts. Today, for fun, I went back to all my November 1st post – and I had one every year I blogged!!

2007

On the first, I found out that my 3rd pregnancy {4th child} was a girl. Good thing too, because I had only visions of vintage chandeliers since the day I found out I was pregnant!

That was also the same month that I did some Christmas tutorials – my favorite was my Christmas wreath!

It was also when I started working on the website you currently visit and had several online boutiques show interest in my art – although I did not take anyone up on their offer. I started offering the 5×5’s. I also had to put my dog down for a tumor on her kidneys – I miss that dog soooo much.

Uhmm, yeah . . . that is a professional picture of my dog. You can’t tell me that it’s not the funniest picture you have seen! That dog was precious! And she loved me so much that she would do anything I asked! Obviously.

AND I was featured on Today’s Creative Blog.

2008

On the first, I helped a friend “surprise” another friend with a painting. It was one of those times when someone ordered their own shower gift – only, they didn’t know it. haha! Since, that has happened many times!

That was the month that I braved it and took all 4 kids out by myself. {Definitely the beginning of the rest of my life!} Emme started standing and it was the month that the ball started turning with all the therapies for the boys. It was also when Hudson had a scary experience and we found out he had a nephrotic syndrome when his kidneys had issues filtering.

And who could forget the Fa la la’s?

And I got great “blog” exposure when blogger chose my blog as the “blog of note” – I had over 7000 hits that day!

Rough month with alot of positives – do they cancel each other out?

2009

On the first, I painted a painting that sorta help start the layered look you see so much of here on my site/blog.

I forgot how I did the tone on tone dots on the white! Will be doing that again really soon!!! LOVE that look! Love this painting! {That is vain!}

I let my kids pick out their own Christmas trees AND went ahead and set them out {I won’t be decorating that early this year!}

And who can forget my beef with Porter and SW paints?? Do you know how many people google this?? I get at least 20 hits a day when I do a keyword analysis. Hysterical!

I finally got a family picture taken!! And then the frenzy began when I painted the Boone! So many loved this “style” of painting.

I didn’t blog about it at this point, but Hudson had a biopsy on his kidneys to confirm his nephrotic syndrome was Minimal Change Disease. I also painted my hutch – and for the record . . . I have not changed her up at all!!! Still love that color just as much – if not more – today!

And my tree was the wackiest and tackiest it had ever been!

2010

. . . . to be continued.

Google Eyes, Dot Garland and How to do it . . .

Preface

If any of these old photos look familiar – as in anyone you know, are related to or perhaps {please, I hope not} be YOU . . . please know I didn’t mean to deface you or your peeps – only to enhance their “natural” beauty and forgive me. And I totally understand if you never come back here again. Thank you.

I saw this idea and cracked up. And knew I definitely wanted to make a few of these for my Halloween decorations. Problem was, I didn’t have any old pictures – especially any I wanted to do this to! So, I went to etsy . . . and guess what I found? Yes, I do a lot of business on etsy – purchasing business, not selling {that is another post for another day.} I paid and within 2 hours had the pictures via email!

I could have printed them myself, but I wanted really good quality. So, I went to mpix and uploaded the photos. It took a couple of days, but I got them in the mail yesterday and was so excited to get started!! Hence the reason my 1 before photo looks a little bad – it was midnight and I can’t take good photos to start with, the dark really doesn’t help me any.

BEFORE

ADDED

HAHAHA!!!

Here are a few more . . .

I did only buy “smiley” kids. Although I think it would have been even funnier with the mean faced ones – I am going with the “merry, not scary” theme! I used Martha Stewart’s glitter glue – only because it was the only glue that I had that had a fine tip. The only advice I really have – use google eyes that are actually bigger then the eye area on the picture. You can see in the last picture above the corner of one of his eyes. They look better if the whole thing is covered.

Why do I find this so funny? I still have to put them in the tiny frames and then attempt to hang them on a tree – a wire Halloween tree {you’ll see it in a few days!}

And as much as I would like to say this was an original idea, it wasn’t!! Go here to see where I found the idea from!!!

And because I’m so crafty, {I hear you Beastie Boy fans!} here is another fantastic idea I found!!!!

I borrowed a cricut machine from a friend – and oh.my.word!! I want one! I cut out circles at every free moment for a couple of days! I found several different papers – from Halloween scrapbook paper, to card-stock, to fantastic glitter paper!

Then I ran the pieces through my sewing machine. I used clear thread and zipped them through – crazy, easy and takes no sewing skills!

The card-stock is double sided so it doesn’t matter what side you see. But the regular ol’ scrap book paper AND the glitter stuff is one-sided only. So when I was zipping it under the machine’s foot, I just put 2 of the same size circles back to back. I even used the odd shaped stuff I cut out with the cricut. See the purple oblong shape on the black circle?? I wasted NOTHING!

I don’t remember how many sheets of paper I cut out – maybe 15? It didn’t take long to sew it AND I had tons of it!!! This stuff is every where!!

Again, so not an original idea – I totally ripped off Lindsey from the Pleated Poppy!

I’ll show more decorations in the next post – I was afraid I was getting to wordy or too many pictures! I don’t want to bore you!!!!

Recipe for Banana Muffins . . .

I was so on a roll with blogging . . . ugh, and then . .  well, I don’t know what happened! But I did have my Scentsy party on Saturday. I had a great turnout and met a blog reader – who, by the way, brought me the sweetest bag full of goodies! All my favorite “paint stuff!” Christine, thank you!!!

I had a few people {actually, I think most everybody} wanted my recipe for the muffins I served.

Warning – these muffins will change your life.

Banana Bread Muffins

  • 1 1/2 cups of self rising flour
  • 1/2 tsp of salt
  • 3 smashed bananas
  • 3/4 cup of sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/3 cup veg oil {or whatever oil you choose.}
  • 3/4 tsp of vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 2 Tbsp flour
  • 1/8 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 Tbsp of butter {slightly soften, but not room temp.}
  1. Preheat oven to 375. Grease muffin tin OR use liners. {This recipe will make 6 Jumbo muffins or 12 regular muffins.}
  2. In a large bowl, mix flour and salt. In another bowl, mix bananas, sugar, egg, oil and vanilla extract. Stir banana mixture into the flour mixture just until moist. Then spoon the mixture into the muffin cups.
  3. In a clean bowl, mix together brown sugar, flour and cinnamon. Then “smush” butter into the brown sugar mix until it has a crumbly consistency – this will be your streusel topping. Sprinkle the topping on top of the muffins. Bake muffins for 18 – 20 minutes!
  4. Then pass out from the deliciousness!

Luckily for me, Lonnie is taking off this entire week and promised me a couple of days of nothing but painting! Talking about needing it! I have 2 paintings that are so close to be finished it is ridiculous. Hopefully today . . . maybe tomorrow, I’ll finish them up!!!

This one . . .

and that one are needing final touches!
