Nightstands . . .

I blogged about my nightstands recently. My friend, Jamie, who is the Craigs List Whisperer {she can find anything at the price you are wanting to spend – swear,} found me some early 90’s {guessing} Ethan Allen tables. And when I tell you they were exactly what I was wanting is an understatement – I had them pictured in my head and she found those mugs – for $40. FORTY BUCKS FOR THE SET!

I seriously just mention something I “think” I might want and the girl finds it. It is some serious craziness. I told her she needed to start a business. I hope she will one day!!!

Some of these pictures are not the best – so I apologize now! I know everyone wants to know how I did it – so let’s begin. Emme put on some rubber gloves and wiped both tables down with a clorox wipe. Oh, yes she did! I unscrewed the dated hardware {and trashed it. I hope that crap never comes back around in style} and filled in the holes with a wood filler. I had Home Depot mix up 2 sample containers of paint – you know the 7.5 fluid ounce tubs.

The colors

Behr's Lotus Leaf

Behr's Dragonfly

I liked both colors and really didn’t know which to choose. For $2.94, it really didn’t matter. But they are like a blue/gray/green – ish color. I painted the first coat the Lotus Leaf and the second coat Dragonfly.

I then took a fine grit sanding block and sanded all over! I put a little more effort on the edges that would naturally be worn. I bought the new drawer pulls from Hobby Lobby 1/2 off for $1 each.

So, for under $50 and about 2 hours of my time and 20 minutes of Emme’s,} I got the perfect nightstands!!!!! {yet again, winning!!!}

Because we all love some randomness . . .

So, when I started my post about our journey with autism, I realized it was a long story. Hudson will be 7 in a couple of weeks and as you read yesterday, I was thinking there was something going on somewhere during the first year. I decided to write about it every couple of posts. For that matter, I could probably write about for as long as I blog because it is our forever and the story doesn’t stop.

Fortunately for all you guys, Hudson has started a program that focuses on his cognitive skills. It is 4 days a week for about an hour and 15 minutes for about 16 weeks. Most of these days, me and the other 3 kids will be sitting in the van {such as this very moment.} Since I can’t do anything productive sitting in my car, I thought why not blog!! I will just have to remember to bring my MacBook. That could be a problem. A serious problem!

Got a new picture with a new do for you guys – now if I can replicate it!

This was days ago and I’ve yet to be able to make it do the same thing. So aggravating.

I’ve also had several people ask me about my eating and how that is going. I’m down right at 9 pounds. And I can’t believe it!! I still need to add exercise – that’s right, I’ve not done that yet. I’m such a slacker!! But I’m back into a size 4 and happy that it looks like a pack of farmers have moved out of the seat of these pants I’m currently wearing. I’ve not really cheated which is awesome. I need post some of my recipes on here sometime so you can try it. I am eating more than just raw veggies and fruit!

Last week we had our driveway widened. I can’t tell you how stinkin’ excited we are! Two more days and we can drive on the newest part. I drive a van and my husband drives a Toyota Tundra – it’s big with 4 doors and could be a semi as far as I’m concerned. For us to fit side by side on the driveway, his tires were all off the driveway. We added about 3 feet to each side. We got approval from our HOA last spring. I sure hope we don’t get in trouble for doing it a year later. And yes, it wouldn’t surprise me if we do. Lucky for them, we can now finish up our janky landscaping!!

About a year ago, one of my besties who is the  CraigsList whisperer, found me 2 night stands that were perfect!! I say perfect, after they got about 3 coats of paint the other day, they were really perfect. I’ll have a post about that soon. She had found me a bedroom suit {also CraigsList} and I needed a matching set of night stands that didn’t match the bedroom suite to complete the set. Here is a little sneaky peek for you to see …..

I painted my interior back, French doors red. I can’t believe how pretty my outside looks looking through the red. I’ll post about it with pictures as soon as I clean the red off the windows. Might be a couple of years, but know I owe you the post!

And since this post is so freakin’ random, I’ll just keep adding to the randomness. Today marks the 16 year anniversary that my house burnt down. It was the first thing I thought of when I woke up this morning. I was a senior in high school. I had just been asked out by this guy that I had eyeballed my entire senior year, yet our paths never really crossed. Then I went to Panama City during my spring break and we ran into each other. We saw each other that 1 day and that was it.

Once school started back, I made a point to say hi to him everyday and finally, on that Wednesday {April 17th,} that fool finally asked me on a date. I was on cloud nine during that drive home after school. Then I topped the hill right as you came to my driveway and I remember thinking why are we having a yard sale. On a Wednesday. In the middle of the day. ????? I didn’t even see the fire truck in the neighbor’s driveway. I didn’t notice the giant charred hole in the roof. Nor did I realize the crap in our front yard is what people had drug out of our house while it was burning and afterwards.

To skip to the end of the story, it took me an hour or so to realize that I had given Mr. Good-looking-that-finally-noticed-me-in-Florida my phone number. I had my own line at the time and well, it was officially a non-working number. I remembered the firemen and a few others talking about how the home phone rang while they were trying to put the fire out. Apparently, a fireman answered it. I waded through water to the center of the house. I found the wall phone in the kitchen and sure enough, I heard a dial tone. I pulled his number from my pocket and called him. And of course I started crying immediately, “You can’t call me because my phone doesn’t work.” He was like Huh? And then I told him {briefly} what happened. I’m sure he thought I had lost my mind when I told him I was standing in the middle of my burnt house talking on the phone.

We dated for 3 years.

It is hard to believe that all happened 16 years ago. Sixteen years is a lifetime ago, yet I can remember so many details including the phone number I dialed that day!!

I might as well throw some art into this random mix! My CraigsList Whisperer friend’s youngest son {did you follow that?} had a birthday! Of course I finished it in the nick of time to get it to the party so I took zero pictures of the finished piece! This picture is from the sneaky peeky I sent his momma.

Look at this kid! This was six months ago so he is practically grown now, but he is still the cutest thing ever. I can listen to him talk for hours. He just has that cute little voice that will melt your heart. I don’t know how he ever gets into trouble. I tell his momma that she must have a black heart to get on to Cutie McCute Cute! {hahah! just kidding!}

I’m going to stop all the randomness so you can get on with your life. Thank you for reading about all the madness.

Chairs . . .

For the past 4 years {literally,} I’ve had this problem of not enough kitchen chairs around my table. You see, at our old house, we had space for a table that seated 4 – the biggest reason we had to sell and move. The twins were getting big enough to sit at the table and I was pregnant with Emme. That is six people. So, unless we were going to eat in shifts, it wasn’t going to work!

at our old home

{I swear that is a money tree on the table. IF you have no idea what I’m talking about, then please, ignore these two sentences because you might be good people and it might only look like a potted plant !}

Any hoodle, once we moved to our new home, I got a new table. Because obviously, this table only seated 4 – unless I put the leaf in it. Then it would seat a couple more, but the round ends still gave little space.

I painted it black because I didn’t know what I was going to do with the chairs. And, as usual, distressed it a little.

Errr, actually alot. It was new – then I beat it, poked it and removed chunks from it! That is nothing but some distressin’ lovin’!!!

And basically, that is where I’m at today. For the past 4 years, I’ve lived with the 4 chairs around this table! One of the main reason’s we moved was so that we all could sit around the table! I will tell you that I’ve had a few temporary stand-ins. We do have a couple of bar stools. And recently, I bought 6 chairs from a friend. I had every intentions of painting them black and maybe give them a lot little worn look. But the chairs didn’t fit right. They were just so tall! And heavy! And just not right. Don’t get me wrong – they are awesome, solid chairs {anyone in the market for 6 chairs?} but they didn’t work for the space. And frankly, I love my old ones!

I know you are wondering why I don’t go get 2 to match the 4 I already have! Here is the thing. They came from Pottery Barn years ago!!! I looked in the magazine at those chairs for years! Every single time I would go into the store, I would search those puppies OUT! I don’t think Lonnie and I were married yet, but he finally convinced me to go get the dang chairs! For $180 a piece, I bought 4 of them. I had a cousin that worked at the store and he informed me that it was a good thing I was getting them – they were retiring that design. I remember thinking “good thing is right!” I would have died if I finally decided to get those and they were gone! If I ever thought I would have needed more, I would have gotten them at that time. Who knew that I would pop out kids like I was getting paid!?

The chairs have been fantastic! Definitely one of the best pieces of furniture I’ve ever bought from Pottery Barn – and I’ve bought a lot! They have held up great and only for 1 seat {that Lawson picked at continuously,} even the rush seating is in great shape! I have finally decided to keep them and find 2 coordinating chairs for each end of the table. I thought I found a style.

Love it.

Love it so much, I could marry it.

I want it.

Drooling.

Even the stain is the exact color as the stain on the original 4 chairs.

Of course that is the great part of finding them in Pottery Barn! But then there is a kicker.

They are $499 each! I have no lies to tell, if I find something I really like, love, want to share the rest of my life with it, I will normally pay the price – no matter how steep. But 4 kids later . . . . I no longer have “stuff” that is “nice” anymore in my house. There is no way in HELL I’ll pay $499 for a chair! Especially because I need 2 – and $998 just sounds like groceries, utility bill, water bill, cell bill and some of my mortgage!

Dear Pottery Barn,

I love your stuff. I have so much of it that it is ridiculous. But come on – $499 for a dining chair? Really? That hurts me in so many ways. Unfortunately, my kids could break down your $499 chair probably quicker than they can take out $499 in groceries. So, for this time, . . . I’m going to have to pass. I’m sad. My heart is broken. Hopefully, you will forgive me this time for my straying ways, but I just can’t convince myself that this is a smart purchase. Not at this point in my life. Or my kids’ lives. Unless you can come up with 2 chairs that match my current ones, I have no other choice but to move on {this one time.}

With all my love, Kim Tate Wheeler

What a dilema. But fortunately, I had a friend that mentioned the Home Decorator’s Collection. Guess what I found?!?!

Yes, the legs are a bit different but I still love them. Even the idea of black is better for me  - to match my table! AND the price – I know you are wanting to know – What’s up $135!?

The one thing I’m not a fan of – the fabric. Just a little too neutral for me. I don’t know if you know this about me, but I like color! I found this kitchen on Pinterest and fell in love with all the fabrics! My favorite is the dot on the back of the chairs – anyone know where I can find any of this fabric?!? I don’t know if I would really use it, but I want a swatch to see if I would {on the back of the chair!}

I’ve not ordered the chairs yet – only because I’m holding out I might find 2 more of my original chairs on Craigs List. {yeah right.} But if I do order the ones above {the $135 ones,} I think I might {maybe} paint the other 4 black {because 10 years is a long time and a miracle to not get at least 1 coat of paint in this house} and upholster the rush seating since 1 is in really bad shape {thanks Laws.} I’ll keep you all in the loop on what I decide.
