Isabella . . .

Another gift to mark off my list!!! I have to tell you about this one . . . oh, and I have so many stories I could tell you about this one! Maryann was my neighbor when I lived downtown Murfreesboro, Tennessee. I loved that house and I really loved my neighbors {even the crazy ones because they gave me great stories to talk about!} It was an area that had about 75% renters and 25% homeowners mostly because of the Middle Tennessee State University campus was somewhat close. I bought the house a year before I got married since it was a great place to start out if you like old homes!

{this was my house, we conveniently cut out the house I’m referring about! haha!}

The historic district was just a few blocks away and the quaintness was all around! Since I lived there for about 6 years, we had several “groups” of people – usually college students – move in the house next door. For around 2 years, it was a group of girls. One girl in particular was in the house the longest – Maryann. We had so much fun together. She would humor me and go to Hobby Lobby or Ruby Tuesdays when I was having crazy craving when I was pregnant with Hudson. Oh, and the humor continued when she locked herself out of the house and my husband had to crawl through a window to unlock the door! hahah!! What was crazier was the day she was moving in we figured out that {now follow me} my step-mom’s sister was married to a man who had a sister that married to her brother. Oh yeah, you got that??? haha!

Needless to say, there was not a day that went by that she was not at my house! AND she was there when I painted the very first painting!! She was one of those people who lied to me and said it was gorgeous and perfect!!!! {I forgave her a long time ago!} She was also there for much of the renovations of our house! She didn’t say it, but I know she wanted to move in with me! haha!

She had those kinda parents that didn’t make her get a job {but secretly wanted her to – I’m quite sure.} So she was readily available anytime I needed to go somewhere! And she always did! It was awesome! AND she was a fashion major, so I had the best time helping her with her homework . . . but I didn’t really do any! I just like the parts about fabric and such so I would go over there when she was working on it.

I cried when she moved. And knew I would never have another neighbor like her, and so far . . . I’ve not!

She finally found the man of her dreams and they got married right before I gave birth to the twins. Actually, that was the last place I went before I had those little freaks. I was so swollen after the wedding that I couldn’t make it to the reception. {I think she forgave me a long time ago!} {Mae – is there any pictures with me in them at your wedding? Do me the favor – burn those things!}

And when she found out she was pregnant . . . oh my word! And the kid looks just like her! She is seriously got to be one of the most happiest babies I’ve ever been around – Baby Chubbs is always smiling! Gahh! Somebody put that baby in between two slices of bread and let me eat her up!

okay, now that have Maryann crying, let’s get on with the painting . . . .

This baby is going to be a glamour girl – I just know! So, we had to add beads!

The bedding has corals, blues and greens. But, it won’t be long till she will be moving into a big girl bed {because it took me forever to do this painting!} So, we kept those colors AND added so much more.

Maryann, I hope you love it!

The little blue room that stole my beating heart . . .

I don’t know how many of you read Edie’s Life {in} Grace, but today is a special day – it’s Edie’s “birfday!” I don’t know how she wanted to celebrate it, but it looks like her friends hijacked her blog and asked us all to post today about one of our favorite moments of Edie and link it from her blog. Edie and her family have had a rough couple of weeks. And the hopes and prayers are this will lift her up!!

I met Edie at Blissdom 2 years ago – she was a peach! That was the year I was up Nester’s butt because I was having major social-awkwardness-issues and the Nester was really the only person I knew. Edie had made Nester the cutest bird {and we couldn’t stop talking about it!!!} But Edie was such a genuine person. I just remember how nice she was and smiley! I had only visited her blog one time at that point!!! Sad, I know – but I’ve never been a huge blog reader, even in the beginning! {I have too many kids to hang out on the computer more than necessary – they are afflicted with an interrupting tendency!!!!}

Since I have been on her blog many {uhmm, yeah very many} times. Something about Edie’s style is infectious. I love it. I want it. One time I posted about a room in her house – the girls’ room!!!!

It was her daughters’ room 2 Christmases ago!!! I love this color combination and wanted to re-create it – down to the rubber boots by the door. But that sounded really stalker-ish. I do try to refrain myself.

At times.

BUT I wanted this room  . . .  in a bad kinda way. More for myself than Emme.

If you have never spent any time over at Life {in} Grace, go over there and read! Edie is a beautiful spirit in and out!

Happy Birthday, Edie! I hope you have a wonderful day. May God bless you and comfort you and your family during this time and all times.

Hudson’s 5th birthday party . . .

This was the first day it rained like CA-Razy and the beginning stages of the great flood! We didn’t know if we were even going to be able to have the party – more so because of all the tornado warnings, not necessarily the rain.

But we did, basically because I had prepared too much food to cancel and we knew all our neighbors would be here. AND the fact that Hudson heard Lonnie and I debate if we should have it and he started crying and begging us not to cancel his party. ** heart wrenching** So, we sent out a mass text to everyone explaining why we were still having the party and got a good idea who was coming.

Hudson knew exactly who was invited. He went over that list about 79 times. Unfortunately for some of you, he has a fantastic memory and could recite exactly who was “coming” in the order it was written. Fortunately, he completely understood when we explained that the interstate was closed for some of you due to flooding and you could not make it. Fortunately, I don’t make a habit to lie to my kids and gave no explanation for some folks who didn’t call. Unfortunately, he still tells us who didn’t show up. And though I’ve given him the reasons I have since been given, they don’t fly days later with my kid. He’s tough on people, what can I say?

I’m really working on this expectation thing with my kids. Especially Hudson. So far, it isn’t working. I think because he is just now getting it. He was seriously looking forward to this party. He knew exactly why people were coming over and the thought thrilled him to death. And because all this is just now kicking in, he hasn’t had many true disappointments.

But one thing he was NOT disappointed about was his cake – which was fantastic! The thing is, Hudson doesn’t eat cake – but it was perfect! For months, he said that he wanted a Universal cake . . . ??? . . . that is what we thought too! And when I would tell him to describe it, this is what he described! I think it is because it is the first thing he sees when he watches any Dr. Seuss movie – the old cartoons to the Cat in the Hat {Mike Myers version.} He totally relates the 2 – Dr. Seuss and the Universal logo. When asked if he wanted “Happy Birthday, Hudson” on it, he told us that “Happy Birthday, Hudson was not on the Universal.” haha! But he did love the number 5 candle he found at Target! He easily gave in and let us put that on it.

This was the first year that he didn’t lose it when we sang “Happy Birthday.” NOR Lawson! They both usually freak out and start screaming and crying when it is over and everyone starts clapping. I’ve been preparing them for it all week – singing Happy Birthday and clapping incredibly loud at the end. It worked – they both did fantastic! Oh, how the sensory overload is better controlled when we understand the problems!

Seriously people, educate yourself if your children easily meltdown during sensory overload. Don’t get me wrong, I can’t catch every time – but most of them have really been nipped since I’ve figured it out!

Those who did brave the weather and came, thank you from the bottom of my heart. That night when we were getting the kids ready for bed, Lonnie asked Hudson what was his favorite part of the day.

His response, “All the people that came.”

Check out this Matrix pose! Krista, once again, took great photos!
