Nightstands . . .

I blogged about my nightstands recently. My friend, Jamie, who is the Craigs List Whisperer {she can find anything at the price you are wanting to spend – swear,} found me some early 90’s {guessing} Ethan Allen tables. And when I tell you they were exactly what I was wanting is an understatement – I had them pictured in my head and she found those mugs – for $40. FORTY BUCKS FOR THE SET!

I seriously just mention something I “think” I might want and the girl finds it. It is some serious craziness. I told her she needed to start a business. I hope she will one day!!!

Some of these pictures are not the best – so I apologize now! I know everyone wants to know how I did it – so let’s begin. Emme put on some rubber gloves and wiped both tables down with a clorox wipe. Oh, yes she did! I unscrewed the dated hardware {and trashed it. I hope that crap never comes back around in style} and filled in the holes with a wood filler. I had Home Depot mix up 2 sample containers of paint – you know the 7.5 fluid ounce tubs.

The colors

Behr's Lotus Leaf

Behr's Dragonfly

I liked both colors and really didn’t know which to choose. For $2.94, it really didn’t matter. But they are like a blue/gray/green – ish color. I painted the first coat the Lotus Leaf and the second coat Dragonfly.

I then took a fine grit sanding block and sanded all over! I put a little more effort on the edges that would naturally be worn. I bought the new drawer pulls from Hobby Lobby 1/2 off for $1 each.

So, for under $50 and about 2 hours of my time and 20 minutes of Emme’s,} I got the perfect nightstands!!!!! {yet again, winning!!!}

About Kim
I picked up a paint brush for the first time 7 years ago, and haven't put it down since. My goal - To paint a canvas for my son's nursery. I never dreamed a business would be born out of it. {And if you saw the first canvas, you would think the same thing, too!}

      Thanks!! You know, I actually bought the paint about a year ago before I had found the blue bedding on the bed. Yeah, it took me over a year to paint those tables!!!

    You have such GREAT taste!! Completely jealous of your beautiful nightstands & all those pretty pillows that go so well together!!

    • Kim says:

      Thank you!! All those pillows came from Pottery Barn! I’ll post links – I’m pretty sure you can still get most of them!

  3. I love it! I am inthe middle of getting some nightstands painted too… I wish I had gone blue, but my husband wanted antiquish white. Hope it turns out as good as you!

    • Kim says:

      Thanks a bunch!! I will admit that I always second guess my colors till I’m finished and the piece is where it is suppose to be. Then I think to myself that it probably didn’t matter what color I went with because anything would have been better than what it was originally!!! I’m sure you will love it! An antiqued white is a great color to go with because it will match just about anything!!!!

  4. Wow, they look so good! Great job, you are so good!!

    LOVE the tables and the colors are fab! Just curious…did you sand at all before you painted? I always have issues with the paint just sliding off with fingernails scratching.

    • Kim says:

      No, I did not sand it. I seriously just wiped it down with a Clorox wipe. BUT you need to seal whatever it is you paint and that will usually prevent the scratching. You can use a spray clear enamel OR a polyurethane. If you use the poly, just remember that oil based poly will yellow a bit. And water based will not. I do like the oil because the yellow gives it more of an authentic aged look. Hope that helps!!!

    I swear it can be nearly impossible to find a matching pair of nightstands on craigslsit. What a good friend you have. I love the color of the nightstand too.
