Housekeeping . . .

It has been so chaotic since I last blogged. And I think about how I feel like I’ve simplified mine and my family’s life so much compared to years past! ha! Apparently I’m delusional.

But I did want to hop on here and tell you guys a few things – in bullet form, because really I don’t think I could write very good transitional sentences right now. So, I’m skipping paragraphs today, okay?

  • First off – Em has surgery to have her adenoids and tonsils remove tomorrow morning. We report for surgery at 7:45 in the morning. Prayers are deeply appreciated. I know this is a very “simple” & “common” procedure, but it’s my kid and she will be going under anesthesia. Makes me nervous. Hudson had a small cosmetic procedure when he was little and then the kidney biopsy more recently, so I’m not new to the whole ‘wheeling your kid away from you’ feeling – but I still hate it.
  • Amazingly, I have finished a few paintings. Oh yes, I have! And if you “like” small words on facebook, you have already seen them. I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again – it is easy for me to post there because I usually don’t even right a caption. So, not only is it easy – but quick! I’m cruising right along with the paintings and actually, this is probably a really good spot to throw in a sneaky peeky!

Not the usual sneak peek. But I was trying to change it up a smidge!

  • This is a good place to tell you how I’m doing this list thing! Because the one above is really deep in the list and I just found myself in a place to do it – first. Now, no one get mad at me – please! And I’ll explain the one above specifically in the next post so you will understand – and I know you will. But basically, I’m working on 5 paintings at a time. I’m emailing each client of the 5 and trying to get all the info needed to work on each of the paintings. I’m trying to paint only two at a time. During some places of the painting process, I really do have to put a painting down and allow it to completely dry – afraid I will smear wet paint if I paint any further. This is a good spot to pick up another painting and work on it. So, only 2 at a time is my plan, but I really want to be working out the details of 3 others so that when I finish a painting, there is absolutely, zero, none-what-so-ever down time. I want to move on to the next one immediately. And at that point, email the next person to get the plan started for them! Painting 2, but working on details of 3 others. Does that make sense? And detail work is the hardest. And most time consuming. Not only are you waiting for me to answer emails, I’m waiting on you – then throw in the wait time for swatches to get to me in the mail. Oh, for the love of  . . . .. I really do have a love/hate relationship with my mailman. I think he holds out mail and waits to give it to me when he feels like it. Okay, not really – but there have been some questionable things with my mail during my life at this address.
  • Now, a big reason to celebrate – Lawson is officially potty trained! And in a couple of weeks, I’m planning an “underwear party” !!!!!! Yes, I am – for reasons such as there was over a year in my lifetime that I was buying diapers for 4 kids. FOUR KIDS ALL IN DIAPERS FOR OVER A YEAR! Now, don’t get me wrong – we made it and it didn’t kill me. And I’m soooo glad we could {barely} afford Huggies for all my kids. There are some people who really don’t have that luxury and I need to shut my mouth. But I really needed a reason for a party and I think a cake shaped like tighty whities would be hysterical. But in all seriousness, I never really potty-trained any of my kids. There was a little effort with Hudson and none with Carson – and Em? That girl just woke up one day wanting to wear panties and it was a done deal. Lawson on the other hand came close to killing me. I don’t really know what the deal was, but he made me work for it!!! Since he is almost 5, I’d say it is about time!!
  • Unfortunately, Hudson’s protein is up again – really up! Four+ is as high as I can test at home and that is where it is at. Which blows because I just got him to zero and had just started weening him off of steroids for 1 day when I noticed his face was so swollen his eyes looked like slits. He looks miserable and I’m still wondering when or if ever he is going to outgrow this crap.

And because this is super important . . . .

Roxanne from the movie Megamind/Kim Tate Wheeler of Small Words.

  • Why hasn’t anyone said anything about this? I see a few similarities. I normally carry that hairdo. The brows are similar. Lips, maybe? EARS?!? We almost hold our heads in the same way. My teeth are actually as white as hers – the afternoon light wasn’t doing me any favors in my picture that day. I’d say our face shapes are close. Even the eye color is the same! Her neck is skinnier, but heck – I’d want mine slimmer If I was a cartoon! Thank you Roxanne for pointing this out! And shame on those who never said anything! {haha!} It is official – my doppelganger is a cartoon.
  • The last thing – I’m not receiving emails telling me of comments on the blog?!? I recently noticed a TON that actually need responses. I’ll try to work on those this week. I’m sooo sorry.

About Kim
I picked up a paint brush for the first time 7 years ago, and haven't put it down since. My goal - To paint a canvas for my son's nursery. I never dreamed a business would be born out of it. {And if you saw the first canvas, you would think the same thing, too!}

I kept thinking while I was watching Megamind “She sure does look familiar….” HAHA! I think you are WAAAY prettier than her, though. My doppelganger cartoon is Peter from Family Guy dressed in drag….seriously!

Praying for Em and Hudson. Hoping they are both better than normal, soon!

And YAYYY for potty training! I can’t wait to see party pictures!

Woah. Lots of stuff going on in your house! Prayers being said for Em and Hudson (poor baby) now and no matter how ’simple’ ~ a mom worries.

And I ’so get the diaper’ thing. Which is why we do cloth diapers. It is just plain less expensive. Not for everyone, but still ~ saved loads of dough. I also think you are entitled to get to your list however you can. I don’t even know how you get to two paintings at a time. I usually have an unfinished painting that sits there and yells at me to ‘finish me already!’ because I am constantly stopping to feed or change someone. But that is me. Starting & finishing something in one sitting sure doesn’t happen in my studio. I aspire to that.

And were you anywhere near that studio when they created that character for Megamind? . . . Girl ~ she is you. Too funny.

    • Kim says:

I tried cloth diapers with 3 of the kids! I just couldn’t do it. Kuddos to anyone that can! It was hard too, b/c we recycle EVERYTHING! And that is obviously one of the biggest no-no’s for that. Apparently, I’ll never make it as a tree-hugger. I can’t always finish a painting in 1 sitting. But there are many times I still have a few moments but the 1 I’m working on is still wet – so it is easy to pick up another canvas and get started. Of course there are plenty of times like Friday night where I just didn’t go to bed. And then like a crazy fool, I still stayed up till midnight the next night working. Needless to say, I’m cranky in a foul mood today – I have no lies to tell!

      • stephanie says:

Well ~ I’ll tell ya a secret . . . I use disposables too (along with cloth). They are just so flippin easy and I have a 6 yr old that still wets the bed, and there are no cloth diaps that I have found to hold that boys pee in. Seriously, with all the laundry for a family of 6 (and laundry is my ball and chain) sposies are one way to be nice to myself. And I am a bit of a tree hugger ~ I make my own laundry soap ~ and that makes me feel better about the disposables. . .saves $ too.

And eat ya some chocolate . . . it helps me when I am cranky. That and TONS of coffee!~

  3. Holly says:

Ok Kim I have totally been laughing about the Mega mind thing because I told Brian today Roxanne looked just like you! We finally saw the movie last weekend and that totally got my attention! ha!

  4. Joanne says:

Think of Em on Monday. She’s in great hands. Let me know how it goes and if you need anything. I’m totally here for you.
You DO look like Roxanne, but she’s not cool as you, so that’ s probably why I missed it!

    • kim! says:

I’ll text you tomorrow and let you know how it all goes. I never heard of the Megamind movie until the one time your kid mentioned it while we were on the phone b/c she wanted to watch it and the time before that when she put on a “hand-made” costume and said she looked Megamind! Seriously!! And you are quick to tell me who all I look like – was Roxanne just not famous enough?!? haha!

  5. Liz says:

I had to comment because there has been a commercial here lately for Angie’s List (not sure if you have that there, but it doesn’t matter) and they have a little snippet of the founder and I think she looks like you too! Not a lot a like, but similar enough, however, you are much prettier. Here is a link: http://www.angiehicksblog.com/images/angie-wall.aspx

i’m glad to hear everything went well with em. and i hope you can hudson in check. when the kids are sick, the whole world slows down. and about that potty training…you deserve a party. i only did two boys but i always say…it is birth control for me. i never want to do it again. arggghhh.

    • Kim says:

too funny – yes, we ever adopt, it will be a kid that is already potty-trained. It is just gross!! And I’m so over it. And you are right – the world basically stops with sick kids.
