Kenley Grace . . .

Have you looked at my number at the bottom of the page? You must. Go. I’ll wait.

Can you believe it?!? Can you?? I can’t!

This has proved one thing . . . . I’m SLOW! As Molasses! Pure, but subtle ridiculousness! Why would anyone want to do business with me!?!?! I mean, for my personal self – when I want something, I want it. Now. I don’t mind having to wait {briefly} for something, but when I’m working on a project – such as my child’s nursery/bedroom – I would want the room completed asap!

I can’t tell you how much your words, encouragement, willingness to wait, patience and everything in between has meant to me. I know I’m where I’m suppose to be, doing what I’m suppose to be doing – and because of you all, it is confirmed constantly.

Thank you!

{I will have more on this when I’m really at zero.}

On to the next piece of art – Kenley Grace. Don’t you love the name? I like how ‘Kenley’ feels on my tongue. {That should prove how bad my own sensory issues run my life!} I seriously do love how the tongue goes from the ‘n’ to the ‘l’ – {I officially need that psych evaluation!}

The ‘e’ at the end of ‘Grace’ blends into the flower in every single picture that was taken. But it doesn’t look like that in real life. The ‘e’ is fairly predominant!

Why yes, that is hand sewn beads! Which is not a first, but this is a really good post to break down how you coordinate art and bedding without copying.

The bedding is from Pottery Barn Kids – Harper and Fresh Floral Nursery Bedding.

Let me give you the break down of how this painting biz works . . . the sheets have dots. Let’s face it. So many of my paintings have dots – because I LOVE THEM! But I don’t want to match to this bedding exactly. So, I have to work these dots – that are commonly found on my art – on Kenley’s art, but in a coordinating way! {Make sense?} Basically, I have to chew up this bedding and spit it back out and you recognize it as my art and not Pottery Barn Kids bedding. If you are an artist, this should be your goal as well.

And for me, that took a lot of practice. Actually, I’m still practicing!

{back to the dots . . .}

I skipped the white dots on the purple. Instead, I painted lavender dots on a purple. I like the subtleness of the two shades of purple. I also wanted to paint a few flowers – but just not exactly like the bedding.

I actually used an old flower pattern from another painting. Unfortunately, it looks close to the PBK pattern. I didn’t realize it till the black paint was on the canvas and I pulled up the above picture to see how “close” I was. So, that is when the beads came into play – which I had intentions the entire time to use them.

And that about sums up how I chewed up the bedding and spit out a painting!

It is funny how I keep getting these crazy borders! When I go through pictures, rarely do I see two that look a like. I don’t even know how that is possible! It has become my personal mission – to see how many borders I can come up with. haha!

There was actually an incident with this canvas. Em + a brand new toothbrush + black paint + the above canvas {completed before sealer} = one hot mess. It took me just as long to clean it up as it did to paint it from beginning to end.

Over the past week, Emme has become dangerous!

About Kim
I picked up a paint brush for the first time 7 years ago, and haven't put it down since. My goal - To paint a canvas for my son's nursery. I never dreamed a business would be born out of it. {And if you saw the first canvas, you would think the same thing, too!}
