Mandatory . . .

that you comment on this post!! So all you peeps that look from a reader – click over. Those that just look at my pictures – read it and answer! Those who are afraid to comment – face your fear and do it anyways. And what other reason there could be, get over it and comment. Pa-Leeze!

Let me explain . . .

My husband makes fun of the way I sleep. I do not sleep like this all the time. But if I fall asleep on the sofa or floor – chances are . . . I’m in this position. I’ve never-ever thought it odd. Ever. But I will admit that I was a little concerned when he took a picture of me. Asleep. In this position. And I did look a little funny. But not weird. And to actually see myself laying like this actually caused me to, well – Laugh!

I will post the picture, but please continue reading first . . .

I know I’m limber. Incredibly limber. And losing my flexibility rates high on my fear list. Right next to loosing all my teeth. {**shudder**} When I stand, my knees bend slightly – okay, more than slightly – further back than the average person. And luckily one of my children has the same gene. I can bend my fingers in contorted like ways. I can still do the splits. And after mine and Lonnie’s convo last night, I realized I can still put BOTH feet behind my head. Easily. And without stretching – which I’m sure, somewhere in the world, is considered a talent.

But back to my sleep position  . . .

Lonnie tells me this is very un-natural. And that it concerns him that I can sleep 7 straight hours at night in this position and wake up just fine. No kinks. No hurts. No pains. Just fine.

I think he is wrong. And told him I could find at least 1 other person who can do this comfortably. And possibly sleep in this position, too. One. Only 1.

He says I can’t.

Help me, guys. Help me!!! I must prove to him I’m right and he is wrong!!!

I guess you want to see the picture?? Funny, is that Lonnie got it at ever angle, and he nor I could believe that I didn’t wake up!!! I was just that comfortable.

Please ignore the fat squishing out. Such an alignment in the pose requires that to happen {haha!}

So come on!!! Comment. Tell me if you think this is weird – I don’t at all. Well, slightly for my age, but in the big picture, really, I don’t. Tell me if you can do this. If you know someone that can. Anything to argue my point . . . . or {I told him it would be fair} argue his.

I’m dying to hear what you all have to say! This should be interesting.

And for the record, I slept like a baby. All night long.

About Kim
I picked up a paint brush for the first time 7 years ago, and haven't put it down since. My goal - To paint a canvas for my son's nursery. I never dreamed a business would be born out of it. {And if you saw the first canvas, you would think the same thing, too!}

Comments

  1. Brandy says:

Oh my goodness this is crazy! I agree with Lonnie that you are the only person in the world to sleep like this! ha! That’s just too funny.

  2. Amy says:

Girl I lurv ya.. but that is just freak’n nuts to sleep that way for 7 hours.. HA!
Seriously, are you stiff at all when you wake up?

  3. kodi says:

I’ve slept like that but woke up and my feet were numb!

  4. Carly says:

It is a little odd for your age. But if it’s comfortable then yay for you. Show pictures with your feet behind your head! After my sleep last night I wish I was in that position.

  5. April says:

Nope, sorry Kim I absolutely have never slept like that or seen anybody sleep like that. I have to say you are lumber :)
    Have a great day!

  6. April says:

How bout limber not lumber…I would never say that you are wood.

  7. Beth says:

My 13-year-old daughter we adopted from China can sleep just like this. She is also very flexible and can put both feet behind her head very easily. She used to sit up backwards to watch tv. Yep, laying on the floor and her stomach facing the tv and then she would just sit up bending her hips the “wrong” way.

  8. I can tell you that I did sleep like this when I was a child…but not any more. Sorry. But that is talent right there girl.

  9. Amanda says:

Eeek! Just looking at you sleep like that makes my hips hurt!

  10. Lynda says:

Girl that is crazy but it actually looks comfy! Of course my feet would be numb in 5 sec :) I don’t know any adults that could lay like that for 7 hrs but my friends 10 yr can sure could. That kid can get into some crazy positions. He’s like a human Gumby – it’s fa-reaky!

  11. I can’t do it, but I don’t necessarily think it’s weird.

  12. jenn says:

No way, man! That looks TOTALLY comfortable. I’m not sure I could last all night, but I haven’t slept through the night for over a decade so that’s no problem for me. If THAT is your weirdest quality you probably ought to count your lucky stars! :)

  13. I have never seen anyone sleep like that. For that matter, I don’t even think I could get in that position awake. Looks like you are doing yoga while sleeping. It’s probably good for your muscles that you can stretch like that, but I’m going to have to go with Lonnie on this one. :-)

  14. Gage says:

Maybe that would help my aching back…I might try it tonight!

  15. Ouch!! How could that possibly be comfortable? If it works for you…You amaze me every day.

  16. Nelson's Mama says:

    Not anymore!

Had to have hip surgery three years ago for a labral tear (at 45), don’t have the hip rotation to do it. My 70-year old father sleeps like that sometimes…

I can squat (I know it sounds weird), for long periods of time…with my heels completely flat on the ground. If you are that flexible, I’m sure you can too, it’s how I work in the yard, or scrub woodwork, etc….but I get lots of comments about it too.

  17. I don’t believe I have seen anyone sleep like this before!! We’re you watching t.v. like that and fell asleep or did you get into that position after you fell asleep? I think I am siding with Lonnie on this one!!

  18. Crystal says:

    This is too funny!!

  19. Roxanne says:

Yep…I know 2 people who can (and do) sleep like that! I made a comment to a friend after seeing a picture of her 1 year old sleeping like that. That’s when she told me she can still sleep that way, too!

So you are not alone, my friend!

  20. Anne says:

Since it’s mandatory…well, it’s not the conventional way to sleep, but it actually looks comfortable to me. I don’t know anyone that has admitted that they like to sleep that way though!

  21. Rach says:

    You’re just a FREAK….that’s all. :)

  22. chesley says:

i can do this, but i could never sleep this way! you are crazy :-) !

  23. Kat says:

I’ve never seen anyone sleep in “child’s pose”, but I do find it very relaxing for short periods of time!

  24. Amy says:

Um, yeah that is weird. I think I could sit like that but to sleep all night- no way. Honestly it reminds me of a woman in labor needing her back rubbed or her epidural put in, lol.

  25. S.J. says:

It isn’t weird but it is funny! I use to be just that limber but age has a way of stiffening up the joints. I think I might also worry about cutting off the circulation to my lower legs and feet!

  26. Micah says:

ROFL… Oh. My. GOODNESS GIRL! I’ve never heard of an adult sleepin’ like that. I can’t believe your legs don’t go to sleep!
LOL If you rest soundly though… you go girl. LOL

  27. Heather says:

Nope, none of my kids have ever slept like that either! I’ve gotta side w/ Lonnie on this one :-) !

  28. shelly swope says:

i don’t think i could even sit like that and i’m only 25! you’ve got me beat BIG TIME!!! hahaha!

  29. Maggie says:

Nope, never seen anything like it… just another unique thing about Kim.

  30. Jo says:

My one dtr occasionally sleeps similar She doesn’t lay flat she leans over

  31. courtney says:

i can’t do it but aren’t we all a little weird in our own way. whatever works for ya, girl!

  32. Shannon Hayes says:

Okay!! Well, I used to sleep like this A LOT (oddly enough). And even more strange than that is, that I still (at times) nap just like this picture…except I’m taller and well fatter than you HA! So, to me, it doesn’t seem that strange… Does that make me strange…probably so…but I strive to be different LOL!!

  33. Janet says:

    YEEEE—OUCH!

  34. Liz says:

no way! I don’t even think I could get into that position!

  35. Jamie says:

Clearly in Kim Wheeler fashion – unique!!!!!

  36. Megan says:

I thought I used to be limber but I was no where near that limber! I couldn’t get into that position awake. But hey, if you can sleep like that and be comfortable, more power to you! Whatever makes you sleep good!

  37. Oh Kim, count your blessings! This may not be the norm for most people, but if you’re comfortable is this position, there’s no reason to change it.
I think sleeping this way will keep you limber. When you hit the big four-oh, something starts happening and joints start to snap, crackle, and pop, that’s when you have to start worrying about it. I doubt it will happen to you since you’re so agile – you can leap tall buildings and such.
I’m certain there is someone out there who has unusually…er, I mean, unique sleeping positions. Heck, I can’t go to sleep without socks, no matter how boiling hot it is. So there you go, everyone has their quirks, but I wouldn’t call your sleeping position a quirk. ;-)
The picture is pretty hilarious though. :-)

  38. Sallie Baker says:

Oh my gosh, NOOOO! Not natural at all……! But apparently it is for you.
Wow….I would be so stiff the next day…….couldn’t walk.
What am I saying….i wouldn’t last 15 minutes like this!!!

  39. Jennifer says:

Hmmm…I’m pretty sure I’ve never met another person that sleeps like this. But, I say if it’s comfy for you and you sleep well, then do it! I wouldn’t able to breathe well if I slept like that. I can stretch into that position, but it wouldn’t be comfortable to sleep that way all night.

  40. Sara says:

Ok so it is a little weird, but I think not so weird if you consider that it’s basically child’s resting pose (if you’re in to yoga at all) and that’s like the most relaxing pose next to being flat on your back…. I’m more concerned that ur not suffocating in the couch tho?

  41. Natalie says:

OH MY GOSH!!!! I sleep like this too! I laughed out loud when I saw your pictures because that is totally me. My husband thinks it’s weird too. I’m glad to know I’m not the only one!

  42. Shawna says:

Not a problem..totally comfortable to do it too, and to sleep like that…although when I’m in bed I sleep on my tummy and often tuck my legs under my body. But I have to say I would be mortified if my husband took a photo of me, there would be way more fat gushing that’s for sure! You’re too cute!

  43. vanessa says:

i totallly nap this way too… i however, don’t sleep overnight this way because my legs go to sleep…. i have terrible circulation. But at least i’m flexible, huh?

  44. Robin says:

In the words of my husband “Girl, I’d break in half if I tried to sleep like that!”.

  45. Shannon says:

Sorry- only you can sleep like this…. well and maybe babies. As a grown up, I would only wish that I could move like that still….. =)

  46. twiceasnice says:

Honestly I’ve NEVER seen anything like it! I don’t think I’ve ever seen a child sleep like that. You are amazing!! I’m not surprised though I think it’s just an extension of your wacky, funny personality! Love it.

  47. Madison says:

I’ve never seen anyone sleep this way, but do whatever works for you. :)

  48. Patty says:

First of all, there is no fat to speak of! Secondly, ouch! Thirdly, with all that you do every day and at all hours, I’m not surprised that you can just fall asleep in any position and not move. But to wake up without being in some kind of pain – amazing. Do what works for you and sweet dreams!

  49. Heather says:

I used to sleep like that all the time as a kid… i can still do it though i haven’t’ recently because i was prego! :) But i am WAY WAY comfy in that position! :) My sister has slept like that too!

  50. Kim Hancock says:

Can’t say I’ve ever seen anything like this… that’s just pure raw talent! If I tried that I’d wake up & not be able to walk… for a week!
